A letter to the Band of Silver family and the West Hall community from Katy Wilson, new Director of Bands at WHHS
To the Band of Silver Family and West Hall Community,
My name is Katy Wilson and I am honored to become the next Band Director at West Hall High School. I am impressed by the tremendous success of the band program and the tradition of excellence since the opening of the school in 1988. Since moving to Gainesville, it is apparent that the Band of Silver has consistently been a cornerstone of the community and vital to the spirit of West Hall High School. I am thrilled to join the West Hall Family to serve, teach, and make music with many of you!
As a daughter of two retired band directors, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of consistency in leadership for a successful band program. When my father retired as the Director of Bands after 28 years at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County, I was hopeful that his successor would not only honor his legacy but continue the tradition of success he had helped build. I am so thankful to Mr. Ernie Phillips for his leadership and dedication to music education in this community. I am honored to follow such an esteemed leader and teacher and continue his work with the Band of Silver.
To the students and families of the West Hall Band, you have committed to a music program that is dedicated to fostering outstanding musicianship, school pride, and an atmosphere of teamwork. I am honored to join you in this journey and excited to start as your new director. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and to making band the highlight of your high school experience.
After my official start date of June 1st, I will be available to meet with you and answer any questions that you may have about the upcoming year! Please feel free to call or email me at 770-967-9826 ext: 7250 or Katy.Wilson@hallco.org.
