Hello Band of Silver,
Welcome to Game Day! We’re all excited about tonight’s Battle of Oakwood. The students are ready, and we hope to see you there cheering them on.
This is a reminder of something else coming up very quickly: The deadline for the Chicago trip deposit.
As you probably remember from the letter distributed to parents at the pre-Band Camp meeting, The Band of Silver will be traveling to Chicago during Spring Break 2016 (3/31-4/5). Students will perform at the Field Museum of Natural History. They’ll also get to attend the Chicago Symphony, the Blue Man Group, and a Broadway-type show.
The cost of the trip is $750 per person. Besides students, we currently have room for 30 adults from the West Hall Band family. The trip cost will include all activities, as well as transportation via motor coach, 3 breakfasts, and 3 dinners.
In order to confirm our numbers, we need to collect a deposit from everyone who’s planning to go (students and adults alike) of $150.
This deposit of $150 is due Tuesday, September 1.
Please do not send cash. All checks should be written to “West Hall Band Trip” and sealed in an envelope with your student’s name and “Band Trip” on the outside. They can be turned in by your student to Mr. P on or before Tuesday.
What we want more than anything is for every student who wants to go to Chicago, to be able to go. If you have any questions or concerns, or a financial hardship that you need to discuss with Mr. P, please feel free to email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here are some opportunities for band parents and band members (18 and over) to earn money for their band account, by working at the Georgia Dome.

Congratulations on a roaring success yesterday! Everyone came through. We are still doing a final tally of tickets sold and expenses, but it looks like our profit is in the neighborhood of $3000. If you engaged in this project in any way (and almost everyone did), great job. If you sold a ticket or scooped some baked beans or poured some tea or mopped the floor or smiled at a guest as they picked up their to-go bag, give yourself a pat on the back. Some did more and some did less, but that big profit margin is because so very many people made a contribution.
This is the way the band and the booster club can be the MOST successful. Everyone picks up a little, and we can continue our tradition of EXCELLENCE. Make sure you get on board for the beginning of the fall marching season by volunteering to help in concessions. Paul Skinner does an awesome job coordinating that effort, but he needs every parent to work at least one game. Let's make concessions our next big win!
Thank you for selling your BBQ tickets and turning in your money this week. Remember, the dinner is this Saturday 8/15, 4-7 pm.
Now, we need several more volunteers (parents and students) to help with the event itself.
If you would like to volunteer, or if you signed up but have not confirmed a time, please call Patti Dixon at 678 316 1420.
1-5 Shift: We need a few people from 1 to 5 to help prepare the meal and set up the service.
4-8 Shift: We need a second shift from 4-8 to help serve the food and clean up the cafeteria afterwards.
None of the work will be very demanding if there are lots of people to share the work.
I am starting the sign-up sheet for the Chick-Fil-A Kick off Game Sept 5 Louisville VS Auburn at the Georgia Dome. Please see the attached sign-up sheet. All must be 18 years old or older to work. We are required to wear all black, to include shoes, socks, belt, pants and t-shirt with no logos showing including the shoes The work schedule is below and the signup sheet is attached. You received 10 numbered tickets at the beginning of Band Camp, and hopefully you’ve been working hard to sell all of them.
No later than this coming Tuesday, 8/11, we need to receive from every student a check for the ticket sales amount, plus any unsold tickets.
Please enclose the check (to West Hall Band) and tickets in an envelope. Seal it and write the student’s name and a description of what is enclosed on the front. (i.e. “BBQ Tickets: $80) Then you can send in with your student, who will put it in the locked box in Mr. Phillips’ office.
