Tomorrow's weather forecast is calling for rapidly cooling temperatures as the evening progresses. Students should keep this in mind as they prepare the game. Please dress warmly with layers. If possible, wear things that can go under your band uniform. Any jackets worn over the uniform should be school colors so as not to stick out. The same goes for hats and gloves. We will maintain uniformity throughout the game. As is outlined in the participation/performance contract, Mr. Phillips and Ms Pitman will make all final decisions regarding the uniform.
Tomorrow afternoon, Band students should leave campus after school and return by 5:30pm. Auxiliary Girls, Mrs. Pitman can not stay so you should all go home this week and be back at the school in uniform, hair and makeup done by 5:30pm also. The bus leaves WHHS at 5:45pm.
To whom it may concern,
We, at the Gainesville Arby's (#1030), would like to thank the band at West Hall High School tonight!
Your group of students had a great energy about them, were extremely polite, and well organized throughout the entire ordering and dining experience.
The main reason I'm taking the time to email, however, is for the way the students left the store after the visit. Each area the students sat in was extremely clean --- considering the students spread through out the store and even moved a few chairs around, it was even more impressive (and unexpected AND highly unusual)! It was the cleanest I've ever seen the restaurant look after a busload of people came through.
Again, thank you West Hall High School for your business, enthusiam and energy, and finally the respect you all displayed both to each other and to us at Arby's Gainesville!
On Saturday, October 5th, 2013, the West Hall High School Band of Silver took to the competition field at the Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands hosted by Chestatee High School. This event featured fifteen of the top marching ensembles from the region.
The Band, Color Guard, Drumline, Feature Twirlers, and Drum Major each earned superior ratings in the tournament. The Drumline finished second in class double-A. The Feature Twirlers received the highest scores in class double-A. Roxie Smith finished second among class double-A Drum Majors. The Color Guard and overall Band won class double-A by a large margin.
In addition, West Hall was crowned champions of the Silver Division, which consists of bands up to 80 wind musician members. The color guard also won the Silver Division. The trophies signifying these accomplishments are on display in the front lobby.
In all, Saturday proved to be one of the most successful competitions in school history for the Band of Silver. Clearly, I am thrilled with the results. But, I cannot express how proud I am of the hard work our students, leaders, and staff have put in so far this year. The tradition of superiority we have established here at West Hall is a testament to the commitment of the students and their collective desire to be the very best they can be. That is the true accomplishment.
Please take a moment to congratulate these students on their hard work and success!
Ernie H. Phillips
Director of Bands, West Hall High School
